How I Found My Wedding Gown

October 30, 2014

I hope you have enjoyed reading about my wedding! Finding my wedding gown was a total whirlwind. Going into it, I always said that I had no idea what style or shape I wanted, but that when I saw the dress, I would know. Turns out, I know myself pretty well (go figure). And it happened so unexpectedly!

I set out on the hunt to find my perfect gown, preparing myself for a few rounds of shopping days. But hey, I was open minded, positive and just ready to play dress up instead of pick linen colors. I mean, come on… it’s fashion! So my parents planned to come up to LA for the weekend to help and my friend Sydne tagged along to lend a helpful fashion hand.

We started at Saks in Beverly Hills. If you are in the area or plan to visit LA for shopping, definitely hit up Saks! They are one of the better places to shop for wedding dresses in the area (tons of options). I had a blast playing dress up in so many different styles, remember: I had no idea what style. I tried on sooo many dresses. All beautiful, just didn’t speak to me.

So we packed it up and headed to Monique Lhuillier. What a beautiful store! Another treat to visit if shopping for your wedding dress in LA. It was a lovely and sparkly experience that I’ll always remember. Again, the dresses were fantastic and I even considered a two piece dress! They just didn’t give me that feeling. Remember, I knew that when I saw THE dress I would know it.

Well, feeling a little discouraged (I was still so confused), at the end of the day as stores were beginning to close, Sydne suggested we try Oscar de la Renta. She walked down the street to the store and asked if we could pop in before they closed. She told me there were not many dresses, but it would be worth coming. So we did. And I’m so glad that we did.

I walked into the gorgeous Melrose Place boutique towards the gorgeous white gowns and I saw it. I saw a huge bow and a fabulous mermaid-ish silhouette. It was starting to become clear this dress was a contender immediately. I just wanted to change one thing. The straps! The dress (THE dress) actually had a plain strap on the opposite shoulder of the bow to balance the dress. I immediately ienvisionedthe dress to be a huge, wonderful bow on one shoulder and bare on the other. I wanted a one shoulder gown. Something different and fresh and elegant. Nicola nodded yes to the changes and I looked at my parents and we all knew. In a matter of LITERALLY 15 minutes, I had this unbelievable gown on and it was THE gown. I found it. One of a kind. Complete and utter perfection in my eyes. I’m still just as in love with it today.

RIP Oscar de la Renta.
