Creative Holiday Decor

Everyone collectively squeal with me in welcoming the Holidays! EEK! YAY! You guys know I can’t get enough of the festivity and decorating that comes along with holiday celebrations. Whether it Valentines Day or Christmas, I love decorating! Growing up I remember my mother always festively decking our home (no matter the holiday) so I think this runs in my blood. Regardless, I cannot get enough of Christmas especially, so get excited for the holiday content on here! While you wait, check out last year’s and the year before
Today I wanted to round up some of the creative ideas I’ve found around the web this year. I’m inspired by all of these!

Chalkboard presents! How cute are these? Get creative and wrap up something fun. Here’s a tutorial.

Holiday Checklist. You need it, trust me. Thanks to Glitter Guide, you’ll be a holiday pro this year.

Cutesy Displays. Display little Christmas figurines (vintage or not) in creative ways like under a glass dome. I love the idea of placing a small tree in a planter next to it, too!

Use vintage ornaments. Check out your local vintage store for Christmas decor! I love the idea of something unique and vintage. Be different than everyone else!
Paint your tree! Bored with your Christmas tree? No problem. Try sprucing it up by painting it! White is always a great choice, but I’m sure people have been more creative with it using more wild colors. Here’s a great tutorial for you!

Make your own wreath! Martha Stewart has a great tutorial on DIY wreaths. Get creative and add unconventional elements!

Get creative with your mantle using chalkboards, garlands and wreaths. Or simply find/make a gold framed chalkboard, write your choice of Christmas saying and lean against the wall above garland. I really love how personal this feels! It’s all about finding creative twists to holiday styling. I always want to challenge myself each year to create something creative.

This year I have seen really unique ways to work with live branches. One of my favorite ideas is displaying in vases like so. Crate and Barrel currently has the cutest small trees (about the size of this photo) in planters and the look is similar and great.

Throw a ‘Cup of Cheer’ get together. A ‘Cup of Cheer’ holiday gathering can include anything from a hot chocolate bar and cookie making station to an adult beverage (spiked eggnog anyone?) bar and dance party! It’s easier to throw together than you think. And if you already own a bar cart, even better. Decorate your cart for Christmas and invite a few friends over for themed drinks and cookies. Eat, drink and be merry.

  1. Ahh! I'm so excited for Christmas! I love the vintage ornaments suggestion, I recently inherited a 1960s-ish gold tree from my grandmother and will be getting fun vintage ornaments for it! I can't wait! 🙂
