do with the C word. No, not that C word (ha!) Competition. People always want
to know how I deal with competition and comparison in the fashion industry and
blogger world. Heck, in Los Angeles period. My answer is this: competition is
everywhere, overly competitive people will always be there, and it’s how you
handle these situations that truly matters. You know the quote: ‘Life is 10%
about what happens and 90% about how you deal with what happens? Like that.

I’m talking to each and every one of you,
whether you are a blogger or a reader of blogs (or not)- we’re all faced with
competition and comparison every day as we scroll through our IG feeds, Twitter
feeds, etc.
When I think about a life of comparison
(especially in my world of Fashion and blogging, etc) it gives me anxiety. Who
wants to live every day constantly comparing themselves to others? I most
certainly do not. If I were to sit and constantly compare myself to other
bloggers I admire all day, there’s absolutely no way I could do what I do on a daily
basis. I would crumble! Anyone would. And people are crumbling around us every
day, my friends. This goes for people in all careers and walks of life, quite
frankly. Sure, I’ve been guilty of it at times – we all are. But why do we do
this to ourselves? Why do we compare ourselves to perfect strangers, friends,
or acquaintances? We’re all human. We’re all real people. And I promise you the
girl behind that Carrera marble countertop, perfectly styled with her of the moment
YSL bag, 3 Cartier Love Bracelets and 5 star breakfast (made from scratch, duh)
deals with the same insecurities, same issues, same struggles as you and me. In
fact, I know she does. Because I’m sure at some time or another I have been
that girl to someone in some way.
I guess what I’m trying to say is this- here’s
how I deal: remember when you’re scrolling through the many perfect feeds out
there that we’re all human. Do not compare yourself to your friends,
acquaintances and most definitely do not compare yourself to the influencers
you follow on social media. In my opinion, if we’d all just be a little
more real in the process it would do a whole lot of good. But we’re in the era
of vanity, so it’s best to train ourselves to admire, be inspired and (of
course) like those photos remembering there is a human behind it who probably
hasn’t washed her hair in 3 days and is still in her pjs.
Just do you! Because you’re great, your setup is
great, your life is great and you can do anything good (Jessica’s DailyAffirmations reference – if you haven’t watched this you need to right this
second).
haha too cute!

there's absolutely no way I could do what I do on a daily basis. Rachel
Great advice. It's really easy to get caught up in the competition and then start feeling like you aren't worthy or as talented as someone else, but I always think that authenticity is what matters the most
Thank you! I couldn't agree more with your statement. Authenticity is key! Staying true to yourself and just doing you basically. God Bless! xx
What a great post. Unfortunately, I am all too guilty of this. But working on it every day. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you, Taylor. I'm guilty, too! I think taking steps in the right direction every day is exactly where you need to be. Just know you're not alone in it and like the wise Miley Cyrus once said, "nobody's perfect!"
xx
I love this post and the fact that you posted it! I know we've all fallen victim to the C word, and that was actually part of why I stopped blogging for a while. I'm back in it now and it's great to see that someone as big as you is so grounded and sharing such a positive message!
Everyone should start their day like Jessica! Hahah

Patti, this is exactly why I wanted to write about the topic! So many of us deal with it on a daily basis and it shouldn't be that way. We all need to be a bit nicer to ourselves (myself included!) I'm glad you decided to come back to the blogging world, too. Nothing should get in the way of true passion! Messages like this make my heart happy and I really appreciate you reading my blog!
xx, Devon

Thanks, Chelsea! Yep, you have to just cut your own self off sometimes and remember to believe in yourself. We're always more capable than we give ourselves credit for! lol
