How I Spend A Night In Relaxing

During the holidays I find myself needing more time to chill. I have learned to love a night in – particularly during this time of year – and I’m especially interested in how others spend their down time and unwind. With that said, I thought I would share my favorite way to spend an ‘Adult’ night in and all the ‘accessories’ I need for it. I call it an Adult, because a delicious spiked hot chocolate is involved – recipe included!

1.     A Good . Comfy Sweater- A must have for any good night in during the holidays. The more festive, the better.

2.     A Hot, Adult Beverage. I love spiked Hot Cocoa! Here’s a great recipe I found from the Food Network:
Ingredients

2 cups milk
3 1/2 ounces best-quality dark chocolate, bittersweet or semisweet, as preferred
1 cinnamon stick
2 teaspoons honey
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons dark rum, or to taste

Directions

Put the milk into a saucepan and break the chocolate into pieces and add to the milk along with a cinnamon stick, honey, and sugar and heat gently until the chocolate is melted.

Add the vanilla and mix with a small hand whisk and still whisking, add a spoonful of the rum first and taste to see if you want more. Add more sugar if you want this sweeter, too. Take out the cinnamon stick and pour into 2 cappuccino or caffe latte cups.

3.     A classic scent – Juicy Couture has been around in my life for so long. I have loved the smell of their Viva La Juicy fragrance for years. I’m weird – I love to spray perfume throughout the house and on my body while I’m in. I just like to smell delicious, okay?

4.      My all time favorite way to wind down: TV! We love to find a new series to watch, so I wanted to share a few.
–       People’s Couch- if you have not tuned into this on Bravo, you are seriously missing out. I discovered it last season and fell in love.
–       Narcos- Chandler and I devoured this series months ago and are (im) patiently waiting for season 2.
–       Bloodline – a seriously intense but amazing Netflix original drama.
–       Scream Queens- I thought this would be about singing and creepiness because it comes from the creators of Glee & American Horror Story, but there has not been any singing involved yet. Tons of creepiness, though! It’s so weird and creepy that you love it. Like Mean Girls meets Scream. I. Love. IT.

5.     Practice Makeup Styles & Paint my nails- You probably think I’m super weird for spraying perfume around my home but this is worse, haha! Practice makes perfect and nothing excites me more than playing in makeup, wiping it off and re-doing it. Sometimes you have to just sit in front of a mirror and play like a 5 year old. And paint your nails red! I’m all about nail painting – so therapeutic.

6.     Decorating the tree. I live for Christmas décor. I love holidays and decorating for them. Christmas music (or Atlanta Housewives) blaring, boozy Hot Cocoa and decorations in hand makes me a happy girl in her happy place.

7.     Masking, duh. I finish off the night with a good facemask. I’m a huge fan of masks as you may know – I’m always trying new products!

How do you wind down during the holidays to take some time
for yourself?

  1. Looks like the ideal evening. I always enjoy a good book, or show, a candle, and after a hot shower and a yummy lotion i like to just chill on the couch surfing the web or reading. My favorite way to regroup and feel refreshed and ready for the daily grind again haha.
