TXSC Fashion Adventures

Hello there! I am back from my vacay and completely rested. We spent the week in Gulf Shores, Alabama relaxing in the sand. The beach house was heavenly and other than the fact that I’m a complete lobster, we had such a great time! I’ll have a little re-cap of our amazing time a little later this week, don’t you worry.
Relaxation is great, but I’m not much for sitting– so a week of that was plenty for me. Time to go-go-go again! And that means I’m up to my ears in emails. So don’t take it personally, I’ll be getting back with everyone shortly!
On a different note: I wanted to give you guys a little [late] picture recap from the Texas Style Council blogger conference. I had no idea what to expect going into the weekend, so I packed my bags with colorful prints, high heels and excitement. To my amazement, it was a weekend filled with the most stylish and friendly women. I met and learned from some pretty fierce fashionistas, for which I am extremely grateful. Here are a few tips for new bloggers (and old) that made an impact on me:
1. Know your path. And if you don’t, find it ASAP. This is what Kendi of Kendi Everday shared with us. She delivered a powerful message that really made us think. What is your goal with your blog? Because it isn’t just about you. For example, her goal was to ultimately open her own store. How’d she do it? She used her blog as an outlet to gain an extremely large fan base and get her passion across. She encouraged us to not be so focused on the numbers. If you’re a blogger and say you aren’t concerned with numbers, stop lying to yourself. We’re all concerned with numbers. Those will come, guys! Trust me. I’m trying to put less emphasis on the numbers and more on my content. Which leads me into my next point.
2. Curate Amazing Content. This means you may have to spend a little money slash A LOT of time. This is all about making your site look great. The one tip (which has helped me LIGHTYEARS) is to invest in a great camera. Like I said, it isn’t cheap. But if you can afford it, even if it means over a few months, I’d do it. When your pictures look better, it’s pleasing to the eye. The same goes for your blog layout. I’m just as guilty of this. I’ve googled HTML codes until my eyes were practically crossed, hoping to create an appealing look to my blog. I could’ve just paid a graphic designer less than $100 to make a fabulous layout for me. One that is easy to navigate, etc. These things come with time! But basically, they put a heavy and accurate emphasis on content. Think about yourself. Do you want to read a site that is completely disorganized? I know I don’t.
3. Writing and logos. Caroline of Lucky Magazine made a great point when she mentioned a strategy they use at Lucky (who doesn’t want to use theirs btw). If you stripped your logo, name, etc. from your blog, would your readers recognize your work? This really hit home with me. It’s all about finding your voice. Are you sassy? Straight forward? Find your voice. This sets you apart from everyone else. We’re all doing similar things, so setting yourself apart is vital.
I obviously learned much much more, but these 3 points are things I think everyone needs to know when they start out, or even after. If you have a conference close to your home town, I’d definitely recommend going. This was my first, and I have to say it will not be my last. Thank you to everyone who spoke, and thank you to all my followers. I continue to learn from you guys every day, and I hope that I can deliver relevant information to send your blog to the next level!
