Discovering Negril, Jamaica Part 1

While in beautiful Jamaica, we originally planned to do what we always do: rent a car and discover the entire island. But after hearing a few let’s just say scary stories about certain areas and GPS coverage, we decided to stick with hiring a driver to take us out of Hopewell/Montego Bay and into Negril for the day. Something I highly recommend while in Jamaica is hiring a driver – it’s the safest way to explore the land, and you’ll have a personal tour guide!
We will definitely be back to discover the other side of Jamaica’s ridiculously lush land, for sure.

We heard from friends that Negril was a must see. I would agree! With all of the rain and clouds in Hopewell, it was great to spend time in a quintessential Jamaican spot – complete with water so blue it will blow your mind. I have been really into adding bandanas to my look – whether in my hair or around my neck – lately. I knew it would be hot and sweaty, so I threw on my best Indiana Jones inspired outfit to explore. This included my favorite pair of denim shorts and chambray top. You can’t go wrong with denim on denim! And the bandana just finished off my look. They say scarves are the new statement necklace!

Our amazing tour guide for the week, Trevor, who helped me brave the disgusting piles of weird red bugs (see below) in this cool broken down house.
Fun fact: I’m a total baby when it comes to bugs. I can’t help it! I hate them. Every. Last. One. These red bugs were particularly weird and actually mating in this photo. Bow chicka bow wow!

Then we met a crazy Jamaican guy who was just bein’ Miley. He has no fear! Here’s a little play by play of his sick skills.

I’m a huge animal lover as you probably know by now, so I wanted to pack up each goat and take it home with me. How cute are these little guys on the side of the road?

We had drinks at the iconic Rick’s Cafe which is a must. It’s a fun ‘Carlos and Charlies’ type place that in my opinion is a little more refined and less crowded. Be sure to have a Jamaican Rum Punch!

  1. The best is to stay in Negril – the weather is always nicer than in Montego Bay and you get that more of that small town feel then big all inclusive resorts in busy MB. We always split our time between Idle Awhile on the beach and Hide Awhile in the cliffs (just further down the road from Rick's and other iconic cliff stops). So many amazing places to stay on the beach and in the cliffs that have more of that bed and breakfast feel.
