Top 12 Hair Masks & Why I Love Them

I have to admit, I’m a little psycho with my hair. As a blonde, you kind of have to be (so I’ve learned, more on that in a different post soon). I am strict with the shampoo/conditioner/blonde treatment/mask routine every week and I try to switch up masks ever so often. The truth is, whether you color your hair or not,  you need to be masking. And honestly once you start, your hair will feel so amazing that you wont be able to stop. It’s essential. And it’s all the rage.

I get a LOT of questions about my favorite hair masks, so I knew I needed to put this post together. I typically reach for 3 types of masks: hydrating, color treating and repair, but there are so many different types for every issue under the sun. With that said, here’s a round up of my Holy Grail hair mask favorites to ensure you will forever be Becky With The Good Hair. YAS!

My Masking Routine + Pre/Post Shampoo Masks:

I switch between the two for my hair washing routine that I do 1-2x per week (more on this later, I’ve trained my hair). And I swap conditioner with a mask every other wash. Many masks are interchangeable -just make sure you read the instructions before applying. And if you are applying a post-shampoo mask in the shower, be sure to towel dry and completely ring out your hair as much as possible before application. This allows the product to fully penetrate your hair – an important tip from my hair stylist Molly Haugh that made a huge difference.

My Current Combo: Oribe Gold Lust Pre-Shampoo Mask, Oribe Gold Lust Shampoo first, Evo Fabuloso Blonde Treatment (NEVER SKIP!), Loreal Liss Unlimited Keratin Complex.

I know it may seem a little extra, but I promise a little TLC will transform your hair. You only have to do a treatment once per week!

FYI: I’ve noticed several retailers offering a selection of trial hair masks (similar to the face mask section) for low prices! Sephora + Target have my favorite steals of the moment.

My Favorites, hands down:

*Sephora Sleeping Hair Masks  – I’m very into anything I’ve tried all masks except the Acai for color treated hair (which is dumb, considering this is right up my blonde alley) and LOVED each equally. Each pack even comes with a super sexy shower cap to keep everything clean. I should’ve known I’d get addicted, my favorite face mask of all time is Sephora’s Pearl Overnight Mask. PLUS: they are only $5!

Oribe Gold Lust Pre-Shampoo Intensive Treatment Mask-– I started using this mask a few months ago and it has quickly become a favorite. Just be sure to follow directions and apply to mid-shaft to ends ONLY.

Oribe Original Mask- I can always count on Oribe products to wow me. Which is why I always included so many of them. Haven’t let me down yet!

Oribe Gold Lust Transformative Mask– This mask is a staple in my shower. I was introduced to the product around 3 years ago via my hair stylist at Nine Zero One Salon, Molly Haugh. I will always love this in combination with the Gold Lust Shampoo. It’s my ride or die.

R&Co Palm Springs Pre-Shampoo Treatment Mask– Such a great pre-shampoo mask for colored, dry hair! I love the foamy consistency of the product, too. Be sure to read instructions!

Loreal Liss Unlimited Keratin Complex– My other major ride or die ‘in the shower’ mask.

Bumble & Bumble While You Sleep Overnight Repair Mask– I’m always on the hunt for more overnight hair masks. If you want to truly feel the difference in your hair immediately like I do, definitely check out this mask.

Keranique Micro-Exfoliating Follicle Revitalizing Mask–  Yes, this is a hair mask and it exfoliates your scalp to get rid of oils, buildup, etc. which helps products to fully penetrate the root and follicle: yes please!

Aesop Sage & Cedar Scalp Treatment– For those wanting a more natural approach, I highly suggest Aesop – I’m a big fan of nearly every product they produce.

Color Fixator Wheat Germ Mask– Everyone speaks so highly of this mask, so I had to try. It is definitely worth the investment because it instantly adds shine, repairs and protects colored hair.

OUAI Treatment Masks– I love the brand and the packaging here. Perfect for travel! Pop one of these bad boys in your bag to ensure fab hair on the go.

Living Proof Hair Mask– Living Proof never lets me down. I love this hair mask as much as I love their dry shampoo!
